Movie Business = Business for You
We had a lot of entertainment interest going on last month, including a very-short-notice cable show (HGTV) shooting an episode at one of our client buildings in Prospect Heights. After working out the details with the producer, the shoot went off without a hitch and our client building ended up with a nice location fee. Win, win. We also met this week with a location scout who wants to shoot at a Ditmas Park Victorian that recently sold through our real estate brokerage, Brownstone Properties. Turns out that those little neon signs and big trucks that mean hell for parking can be a great opportunity for buildings in the area. Let us know if you have any more star-studded stories, or know of any location scouts looking for Brownstone sets. |

Project Spotlight: Bike Racks for Spring
One of our Park Slope client Co-ops on President Street just made an improvement to their property that we think everyone might be interested in. For less than the cost of a swanky new bike, Brownstone purchased and anchored a bicycle rack in front of the property. No more banging bicycles up and down the common stairs, or dangling bicycles on living room walls - these bikes will be secure on the street, and ready to ride! Does this sound like something your building could use? We're happy to help. Contact Robin Miller, bicycle rack specialist, to get the project wheels in motion. |
Fight Rising Water Costs
We've just received this bit of news from the Rent Stabilization Association: On Friday, April 3, 2009 at a NYC Water Board meeting, DEP Acting Commissioner Steven Lawitts proposed a FY2009/2010 rate hike of 14%. If approved this would be the third consecutive year for double digit rate increases following last year's 14.5% and the prior year's 11.5% rate increase. Today, RSA President Joe Strasburg joined Council Member David Weprin of Queens to encourage angry rate payers to protest this increase. If you're tired of paying the high rates, click here to sign the petition that Council Member Weprin has started on his website to let the Water Board know you've had enough. |

Talking Trash
The word on the street from our sanitation team and property managers is that the NYC Department of Sanitation is out with all the fervor of spring issuing tickets for improper recycling practices. Please take extra care when you take out the trash to avoid any unpleasant tickets. Still can't remember whether that take-out container is recyclable? Click here for the city guidelines. If you'd like a magnet for your fridge or trash can, just email the office and we'll put one in the mail for you. And if you do happen to get a ticket from the vigilant Sanitation officers, please make sure to send it in to Brownstone Managment right away to ensure that there are no additional late fees or fines assessed. Happy Recycling. |
